<image:caption>“We are living in a disappearing world" (EO Wilson) Loss of habitat through the rapacious industrialization and development of our natural environment is the primary cause of what many are calling a 6th Extinction Event. Some would say we live in a civilization that is in contradiction with life itself. A civilization hard wired to exploit the earth, and to divide people and to destroy the environment.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Siberian Larch Extension 2014</image:title>
<image:caption>The client brief was to design a very small contemporary two storey infill extension - to an existing 1970s development townhouse. The design was to provide a new children’s bedroom and a multifunctional sunroom to be used for yoga, entertaining, study and as a children’s play area. All to be accommodated in a tiny existing balcony area 2.5m x 2.0m and in a sensitive historic conservation area of the city and to a tight budget. The sunroom can be configured in a variety of ways utilizing custom panels that disappear into wall recesses. The children’s bedroom has a secret hatch that disappears into the cladding. Ventilation and thermal benefits are improved by warming internal air in the stairwell with winter sunlight. All timber cladding, joinery and stair construction is Siberian Larch and is from FSC accredited sources and renewable stock. The feature internal panels are fireproof, and are detailed with fire-resistant seals and hidden fireproof hinges. The project received the Abercrombie Award in 2011 for best minor Development and the Alan King Award in 2009 for design and technical achievement.</image:caption>
